Fire Fighter - NYC Fireboat |
|
Fire Fighter is New York City's largest fireboat. She was built in 1938 and remains on active duty today. She is 134 feet long, 32 feet wide and has a draft of 9 feet. Fire Fighter is capable of pumping 20,000 gallons per minute, which would fill an average swimming pool in about one minute and 15 seconds! I wasn't able to locate specs on this boat, but similar boats usually have 7 diesel engines, 2 to run the boat at 15+ knots, and 5 more to run the pumps. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Fire Fighter is part of FDNY Marine Company 9 and based at the pier at Stapleton, Staten Island.
