Launched in 1969, the Sloop Clearwater was created to raise public awareness of environmental issues in the Hudson River and other rivers. It is owned by a non-profit environmental organization called Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, and serves as the centerpiece for their education programs. The organization, based in Poughkeepsie, NY, was founded by Pete Seeger.
