Tender 7 is a small tug on the Erie Canal. Today she is working with a dredge. These small tugs do most of the daily work on the canals. The Canal Corp has about a dozen of them.

Here, Tender 7 is dwarfed by her tow which includes a loaded mud barge plus a very heavy clamshell dredge. The racket and smoke she was producing at full throttle, struggling with this load, was terrific, but she did it.

Another look at the tow ... Tender 7 managed to drag this entire load at about 5 knots down the canal with no problem. "The little engine that could" comes to mind.
